BACHELOR OF ARTS (BA) – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Piano Department

PIANO piano dept recital

  • 1 Prelude and fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier,  books I-II.
  • 1 Classical Sonata, movements I and II (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven)
  • 1 Etude
  • 1 Performance piece

All pieces must be performed from memory.

ORGAN

  • 5 pieces are compulsory, out of which 4 in different styles:
  • 1 piece from an early master
  • the fast movement of a trio sonata by Bach
  • 1 Prelude (fantasia, toccata) and fugue by Bach
  • 1 Romantic piece
  • 1 piece by a contemporary (or 20th century) composer

Applicants are required to demonstrate the elaboration of the performed pieces. Furthermore it is expected to show the existence and the potential to further performing skills (modeling, persuasive power, etc.).

HARPSICHORD

  • J.S. Bach: 1 two or three part invention
  • 3 movements from a French suite
  • Rameau: 2 pieces
  • 1 virtuoso Scarlatti sonata
  • 1 freely chosen piece

HARPpiano dept harp

  • 1 Baroque piece: dance movement or concerto (Händel, Bach, Lully etc.)
  • 1 Classical piece: Sonata or Sonatina ((Nadermann, Dussek, Kardon etc.)
  • 1 Romantic or Impressionist performance piece (Grandjany, Tournier, Fauré etc.)
  • 1 concerto movement from any era

 Strings Department

VIOLIN String dept Student and Teacher 2

  • 1 etude selected freely (Rode, Gaviniés, Dont)
  • 1 major movement of a concerto
  • 1 movement of any solo piece or partita by Bach

VIOLA

  • 1 etude selected freely
  • 1 movement of any solo piece by Bach
  • 1 major movement of a concerto

CELLO string dept cello student

  • 1 etude selected freely
  • 1 movement of any solo piece by Bach
  • 1 main movement of a concerto

GUITAR

  • 1 classical virtuoso etude or movement
  • 1 Renaissance or Baroque work, one of which is polyphonic and the other dance piece
  • 1 romantic work

DOUBLE BASS

  • 2 octave scale in major and minor keys
  • 1 etude (from notebooks of Hrabe I., Storch I., or Simandl VI.)
  • 1 fast movement of a concerto
  • 1 slow and 1 fast movement of a sonata

Woodwind Department

FLUTE

  • 1 Etude from the following:Woodwind Flute and Teacher
    • Feliks Tomaszewski: Selected etudes for flute, Studies 6th from the IV. volume (A. B. Fürstenau: G major), or 9th (A. B. Fürstenau: D major)
    • Joachim Andersen: 24 Etudes for flute (op. 15.): 3.
  • 1 optional Fantasia by Telemann or 1 slow and 1 fast movement from a Baroque sonate
  • 1 slow and 1 fast movement from an optional pre-classical or classical concerto, played from memory (e.g. Quanz, Stamitz)

OBOE

  • 1 optional etude
  • Haydn: Oboe Concerto I. movement
  • 1 romantic piece

CLARINET

  • 1 etudes from the following volumes:Woodwind dept ensemble
    • Cavallini: Trente Caprices 10 or 14
    • Klose: Études Caracteristiques 3 or 13
  • 1 slow and 1 fast movement of a concerto
  • 1 performance piece

BASSOON

  • 1 concert etude by Mildewoodwind dept basson

  • 1 movement of Mozart: Bassoon concerto in B flat major

RECORDER

  • 1 Concerto of Vivaldi opus 10
  • 1 early Baroque piece

Brass Department

  • 1 slow and 1 fast movement of an optional concerto

FRENCH HORN

  • 1 optional EtudeBrass dept french horn
  • 1 optional piece (One of Mozart’s Horn Concertos or other piece)

TROMBONE

Tenor trombone:

  • An optional Kopparsch: Etudetbone
  • An optional slow Etude of Bordogni Etudes
  • 1 slow and 1 fast movement of an optional baroque sonata
  • 1 Romantic piece with piano accompaniment

Bass trombone: 

  • An optional Kopprasch Etude
  • An optional slow Etude of Bordogni Etudes
  • 1 slow and 1 fast movement of an optional baroque sonata
  • 1 slow and 1 fast movement of an optional Romantic piece

TUBA Tuba

  • 1 Baroque sonata optional two movements (e.g. Händel: Sonata F-dur)
  • 1 complete performance piece (e.g. Kopprasch: In the depth of the cellar, Lebedjev: Concert, Allegro concert )
  • 2 obligatory Etude: Blazevic: 20. and Kopparsch: 22.

PERCUSSION

Snare drum:

  • 1 piece freely chosen by the candidate

Set-up:

  • 1 piece freely chosen by the candidate

Timpani:

  • 1 piece freely chosen by the candidate
  • Knauer: Studies for Timpani II. notebook 66., 67.* Etudes

Mallet percusion (marimba or vibraphone):

Obligatory:

  • 1 movement freely chosen from the cello suites of J. S. Bach

Elective (1 etude or solo concert piece):

  • 1 etude freely chosen by the candidate

         OR

  • 1 solo piece freely chosen by the candidate

 

Voice Department

VOICE voice from brochure

  • 3 compositions in different style:
    • 1 Lied/song from the European vocal literature, performed in original language
    • 1 aria from the European vocal literature, performed in original key and language
    • 1 freely chosen Lied/song or aria, from applicant’s national vocal literature is acceptable as well

 

MASTER OF ARTS (MA) – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Strings Department

GUITAR Guitar - String - close up

  • 1 complete baroque Suite or Sonata (instead of a Suite, a complete opus is possible, e.g. Bach BWV 998), or (fast and slow) 2 movements of a baroque Suite/Sonata + a long renaissance fantasia (John Dowland, F. da Milano etc.)
  • 1 complete concerto, or a complete 19th or 20th century sonata (a 20th century piece may be a Sonatine with three movements)
  • 1 concert etude
  • 1 performance piece freely chosen, but differing in style from the previous pieces

VIOLIN String dept viola

  • 1 Etudes by Paganini
  • 1 fugue or chaccones by Bach
  • 1 major movement of a concerto

CELLO

  • Scale on 4 octaves (with articulations: legato, detaché, martelé, spiccato, staccato, sautillé, saltato)String dept cello better close up

  • 1  Lied/song from the European vocal literature, performed in original language
  • 2 oratorio arias in different style from the European vocal literature, performed in original key and languageoratorio air by Händel

         OR

  • 2 Lied/songs from the European vocal literature, performed in the original language
  • 1 oratorio aria from the European vocal literature, performed in original key and language
