Master classes for music and visual arts students, 24 chamber concerts a year and Best of Diploma Exhibition. The strategic cooperation presented by the Dean of the University of Szeged Béla Bartók Faculty of Art and the Director of the Szeged Open-Air Area offers the opportunity for this. The partners were also asked what the results of this networking in arts education are.

The University of Szeged (SZTE) has concluded a strategic agreement with the Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts (BBMK) and the Szeged Open-Air Area. The contract was signed by dr. Róbert Nátyi Dean and dr. Tamás Herczeg , Outdoor Director. At the press conference of 11 October 2019, the two leaders announced the widening of the existing relationship between the SZTE BBMK and the Szeged Open-Air.

Beyond the classrooms

The Béla Bartók Faculty of Arts at the University of Szeged is the country’s most important training center for music education in the region. Formerly a music-only training center, it will open up to other disciplines following its transformation into an art faculty in 2019. Thus SZTE BBMK has departments of visual arts and performing arts.

– With the REÖK – Regional Center for the Arts there is already a looser cooperation of the SZTE Bartók Béla Faculty of Arts: the musician students have been able to try in the open rooms for years. This relationship is raised to a much higher level by the Strategic Cooperation Agreement announced at the October 11, 2019 press conference, dr. Róbert Nátyi . As a related example, the Dean of the University of Szeged BBMK suggested that during the renovation of the faculty building, they would like to continue to use the beautiful spaces of the Reök Palace to solve their problems with the teaching and rehearsal rooms. In fact, here, as a new program, the BBMK departments, students and art teachers of SZTE can introduce themselves twice a month to chamber concerts.

Szeged Open Air , the largest and most significant cultural institution in the country, creates productions in all genres of the performing arts, and not just in the summer, such as the Szeged Outdoor Games . The Open Air also runs the REÖK – Regional Center for the Performing Arts, one of the region’s most important fine arts exhibitions.

– We are taking a major step in promoting art education and higher education, based on the fact that our art curator, Dr. Róbert Nátyi, as the dean of the Faculty of Art of the University of Szeged, also aimed at the axis of music, visual and performing arts, which brings in the missing knowledge and professions in higher education, such as the visual and visual designer – said dr. Tamás Herczeg . – Infrastructure and intellectual resources in the Szeged Open-Air Area. The University of Szeged supports BBMK trainings, but it also benefits from the open-air cooperation – emphasized the director, who says that the art faculty of the University of Szeged represents artistic and intellectual innovation that goes beyond the region.

In the spirit of total art

The REÖK – Regional Center for the Arts has always offered great space and opportunities for connecting the arts. The analogy of the cooperation between the Szeged Open Air and the SZTE BBMK is the framework agreement between the regional institution and the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME), dr. Róbert Nátyi. Responding to a journalistic question by an art historian working as the dean of the BBMK and curator of the Reök Palace, he said the two roles could be mutually reinforcing. He gave an example of the Best of Diploma exhibition of MOME students. The graduate concerts of the REÖK, like the Private Department, will give future graduates of SZTE BBMK a degree in Fine Arts. Moreover, SZTE BBMK graduate musicians and singers can perform on the Szeged Open-Air Games in Szeged.

The Szeged Open-Air Center has undertaken to provide information concerning the programs and programs of the students and art teachers of the SZTE BBMK in the Reök Palace.

– Masterclasses help to improve the quality of music education. Based on this experience, the SZTE BBMK will organize masterclasses for prospective students of fine arts in the spirit of strengthening practical training, said the dean. As an example, he mentioned that he would like to win the attention of prominent artists exhibiting this issue at the Reök Palace, such as the Kossuth Prize-winning painter and sculptor János Aknay .

The BBMK departments of the University of Szeged can also contribute to the elaboration and refinement of the possibilities behind the strategic cooperation in the coming months.

“Joint art conferences and publications may be made thanks to the strategic agreement between these two institutions in Szeged,” added dr. Tamás Herceg, who has been a director of Szeged Open Air since 2013, has also been dealing with art theory issues. – Among our collaborating partners, for example, MOME scenery and costume design students and visual arts students of the University of Art and Design in Târgu Mureş are involved in the realization of the Summer Games in Szeged .

“The network of cooperation can be expanded,” said dr. Róbert Nátyi. – Among the students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Szeged, the students of the curator have been able to join the volunteer guides of the REÖK exhibitions. In order to strengthen practical training, the SZTE BBMK formalises and networkes its existing cooperation with the cultural institutions of Szeged and the region, including the Szeged National Theater and the Szeged Symphony Orchestra .

Long-term goals
